How To Find Your Perfect Foundation Shade

Happy Monday Beauties!

I have received so many messages with questions about finding the perfect foundation shade. So, I’ve decided to compile my steps for finding the right shade for today’s blog post. So if you’ve ever had any thoughts or doubts about your foundation shade, then continue reading below for tips!

Know your skin type

Skin type is important when picking the perfect shade. Do you have normal to dry skin? Then dewey foundations are a better fit for your skin. Matte foundations are perfect for combination to oily skin types. My skin is super oily. I’m a huge fan of matte foundations for my skin type, especially with my favorite NYX Matte Finishing Spray. It’s amazing!

Know the coverage level

When I first started out wearing makeup up years ago. I had no clue what coverage level I was looking for, so when I would try on different foundations I would get frustrated because the foundations never “looked right”. At that time, I was using a full coverage foundation way to heavily! That’s why I never liked it. As my makeup skills grew, I then knew how to apply a full coverage foundation along with my concealer, highlight, and contour. Whether you’re looking for a light or full coverage starting out, always know what level of coverage you’re seeking.

Adjust according to the season if needed

It’s perfectly normal to change foundations with the seasons. Some may experience this, some may not. Everybody’s skin is different! During the warmer months, I go one shade darker and sometimes during the winter, I can go a shade lighter. So if you find that perfect shade and you know your skin transitions during the seasons be prepared to change shades again. If the lighter shade is too light, take the darker shade and mix a small amount of the lighter shade together, then apply. It makes the perfect mixture.
